Asian Congress on Biotechnology, Biotechnology for Better Life
Shanghai, China, May 11-15, 2011

Asia Pacific Biochemical Engineering Conference (APBioChEC) was transformed into the Asian Congress on Biotechnology (ACB) this year to facilitate an enlarged scope under the newly founded Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB). This development was inspired by similar organizations, the European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB) and the European Congress on Biotechnology (ECB). ACB-2011 aimed to provide a forum for biotechnologists and biochemical engineers from Asia and other regions of the world to exchange ideas and findings in biotechnology research and development, to share the experiences in advancing biotechnological development or business ventures, and to further research and business cooperation.

This congress included Biorefinery and bioproducts, environmental biotechnology, Pharmaceutical and another 10 session topics.

The 7th International Conference on renewable resources & biorefineries
Bruges, Belgium, June 8-10, 2011

This conference aimed to bring together academic researchers, industrial experts, policymakers and venture capital providers to discuss the challenges emerging from the transition towards a bio-based economy and to present new developments in this area. In this conference, the company Borregaard from Norway presented the activities of forest-based biorefinery. The president of the French plant-based chemistry association talked about how to speed-up the time to market for new bio-based products. One investment company, Sofinnova Partners from France, discussed green chemistry and biosource chemistry, a new target for investment.

59th International Congress and Annual Meeting of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research
Antalya, Turkey, September 4-9, 2011

This congress series has been organized annually in Europe since 1953 in order to stimulate cooperation among scientists of the world for the advancement of research and development into the science of phytomedicine, medicinal and aromatic plants and their products. This congress focused on following research topics: Rapid strategies for (phyto) chemical characterization of natural products; Rapid strategies to assess bioactivity of natural products; Regulatory affairs of herbal medininal products; and Biological and pharmacological activities of natural products.

The 6th International Medicinal Mushroom Conference
Zagreb, Croatia, September 25-29, 2011.

This is a worldwide conference presenting the latest findings in the field of medicinal properties of mushrooms and their use as medicinal agents.

The 7th International Conference on Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Products (ICMBMP), Arcachon, France, October 4-7, 2011.

The aim of this conference is to exchange information about new findings in the aspects of mushroom biology and mushroom products including: (i) genomics, genetics, molecular biology and breeding (ii) evolution, biodiversity and systematics (iii) biochemistry, physiology, nutritional and medicinal aspects, innovative products from mushrooms, (iv) cultivation technology and bioconversions.

3rd Brazilian Conference on Natural Products

3rd Brazilian Conference on Natural Products is a biennial meeting sponsored by the Division of Natural Products of the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ), and is part of the celebrations for the International Year of Chemistry – 2011 in Brazil. The scientific program will focus on the following topics: phytochemistry and chemosystematics; biological and pharmacological activities of natural products; isolation and structure elucidation of natural products; biosynthesis and molecular biology of natural products; chemistry of marine organisms; and chemical ecology.

61st International Congress and Annual Meeting of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research
