The research area of the Professor of Peatland Forestry covers the criteria, methods, and applications of sustainable development in peatland forests and mires. The objectives for research are the impacts of hydrological and nutrient conditions on the growth of tree stands, and the management practices in peatland forests, as well as the impacts of land use in peatlands on the carbon balance and on the nutrient load on the watercourses. This research generates the criteria for the management and sustainable use of natural and drained peatland forests, and for those that will be removed from forestry use.
