The Russian forestry internet service, maintained by the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla), now contains an electronic register of forestry companies in Northwest Russia . The service has also been extended and is now bi-directional.
The “Info Service” portal contains the contact information and a short description of forestry and woodworking companies in the regions of Karelia, Murmansk , Arkhangelsk and Leningrad in Northwest Russia . The aim of the service is to provide a tool allowing Finnish companies to search for cooperation partners. The register contains information on 260 Russian companies.
The Info Service, previously only in Finnish, has been extended by making it bi-directional: information on the Finnish forest sector is entered in Russian on a parallel website at www.lesinfo.fi. In addition, publications and guidebooks in Russian, among other products, produced during different Metla projects are available at the website. The aim of the bi-directional Info Service is to assist especially Finnish and Russian entrepreneurs and to help spread knowledge in Russia to support the activities of Finnish companies.
The extension to the Info Service was carried as part of “Russian Wood Quality and Forestry Information Service”, a sub-project of the Euregio Karelia Neighbourhood Programme. The sub-project was completed in 2007.
