A workshop on

Economics of Timber Supply and Nonmarket Values of Forests

October 16-17, 1997, University of Helsinki, The Finnish Forest Research Institute

The topic of the workshop is forest economics and especially economic studies on timber supply and nonmarket valuation of forests. Also related works in other fields of environmental and natural resource economics may be presented in the seminar.

The keynote speakers are:

Professor Clark Binkley, University of British Columbia, Canada:
“Economics of timber supply”

Professor Leif Mattson, The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Umeå:
“Economic valuation of nontimber forest benefits”
(October 17, 10 a.m., University of Helsinki, Unioninkatu 40B, MT2)

In addition, Professor Clark Binkley will give a lecture titled “Recent development of forestry and nontimber values of forests on the West Coast” at The Finnish Forest Research Institute, Unioninkatu 40A, Helsinki, October 15th at 14 p.m.

We encourage researchers and PhD students to register no later than September 1st to Raija Lahtinen, Finnish Forest Research Institute, Unionink. 40A, 00170 Helsinki (tel. 85705715). Those who want to present a paper should include an abstract. PhD students may obtain detailed comments from professors Binkley and Mattson for studies on timber supply and economic valuation of nontimber benefits, if papers are sent to organizers no later than September 1st. Acceptance notification and detailed program will be given before September 15th.
