Utilization of natural resources over the border of Finland and Russia – perspectives of natural and social sciences

– LYNET IV Research Days

Date: November 11-12, 2014
Venue: University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, Finland (Yliopistokatu 3, Aurora, Entrance B, Auditorium AU100)

The research days focus on natural resources both in Finland and Russia. Animals, rivers, vegetation types as well as mineral deposits run in both sides of the border, but the management and policies often change at the border. Themes of the seminar are Multiple dwelling and second housing, Local food over the border and Forest, Wood and raw materials and Multinational natural resources.

Welcome to listen and discuss on with top experts from Finland and Russia. Keynote speakers, Under-Secretary of State Matti Anttonen from Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Head of Forest Unit Aleksei Jarosenko from Greenpeace Russia, Professor Raif Vasilov from Kurtshatov Institute and Professor Maria Kopsakangas-Savolainen from  Finnish Environment Institute SYKE,  will guide us to discuss on economics and sustainability of natural resources and bioenergy as well as bioeconomy in Finland and Russia.

Research Days are organized by Finnish Partnership for Research on Natural Resources and the Environment LYNET Finnish Food Safety Authority, Finnish Geodetic Institute, MTT Agrifood Research Finland, Finnish Forest Research Institute, Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute,Finnish Environment Institute) and University of Eastern Finland (UEF).
