Kokkola, Finland 8 ─ 11 June, 2009

 >

Nordic & Baltic growth and yield researchers' meeting will be held in Finland on 9-10.6. 2009. As the host organization of the meeting Finnish Forest Research Institute warmly welcomes growth and yield researchers from Nordic and Baltic countries to Finland to change ideas and share information about the current research topics. We have scheduled two-day meeting including one-day workshop (9.6.) and a field trip (10.6).

VENUE

Meeting will be held in Kokkola. It is an old town in Central Ostrobothnia on the west cost of Finland (ca. 120 km north from Vaasa ). You can arrive Kokkola by plane (from Helsinki ), or by train (see Travelling and accomodation).

Workshop (Tuesday 9.6.)

Workshop has two themes. The topic of the morning session is risk assessment in forest growth and yield research addressing methods to study and model the risks and their effects in changing climate & the role of forest management in controlling the risks.

The topic of the afternoon session is production of forest bioenergy.

You are welcome to give an oral presentation addressing either of the above mentioned topics. Please, write the name of your presentation on registration sheet.

We wish that participants arrive in Kokkola already on Monday evening (8.6.), because the workshop will start on Tuesday morning.

Field trip (Wednesday 10.6.)

Theme of the field trip is The production of forest biomass & utilization of forest-based bioenergy. We travel by bus in Central Ostrobothnia , and get to know research and current practices of forest biomass production and utilization.

We will soon provide more detailed information about the field trip.

Funding and registration

We have received funding from SNS (growth and yield researchers' network) to cover most of the expenses during the meeting for all the participants. In addition, we can provide travel expenses (to and from Finland ) for up to six PhD students.

The deadline of the registration is 15.5.2009. Due to the restricted amount of funding, the maximum number of participants is restricted to 40 persons.
