Round table session of IUFRO Gender and Forestry Groups (6.18.00, 6.18.01, 6.18.02)
Integrative management of natural resources, including forests, will require more
effective involvement of women in formal forestry. The effort to facilitate or
promote such involvement will also require greater cooperation between foresters and
other disciplines more knowledgeable about gender issues. Years and words full of
willingness to include women into forestry, several research projects and political
speeches and papers: What is the situation? Still gender bias in forestry. And
gender bias make integrative management impossible!
Now is time for action - but how?
The session will start with invited speakers followed up by limited opportunities
for oral presentations (10 mins). In addition poster presentations are accepted.
The round table session will discuss different means for action: networking, action
research, action plans on different levels and areas in society etc. Is further
research needed? The round table participants consist of invited speakers in
addition to Susana Alves, UK and Siegfried Lewark, Germany. The round table session
is open for questions from the audience.
