Organisers

Aims of the seminar

The purpose of the seminar is to promote the knowledge formation on challenges related to new SMEs in forestry wood-product value-chains in house and timber construction.

The special focus is on business activities, product and process innovations in forestry wood-product value- chains, as well as market supply and demand of wood products in house construction. In addition, public policies associated with production, supply and demand of these wood products are evaluated. In order to understand the linkages between different actors in forestry-wood value chains, the speakers represent research, business, and public organisations.

Implementation of the seminar

The seminar is executed with distinguished plenary lectures from invited speakers accompanied by the comments of appointees specialized on the particular subjects. Study tours are arranged to the first multi storey timber framed office building in Finland, METLA-house, the wood product innovation centre for woodworking industries PUUGIA, and the Joensuu Arena. The aim of these visits is to demonstrate recent innovative solutions in timber construction in Finland, and especially in the town of Joensuu.
