Introduction

The Scandinavian Society of Forest Economics (SSFE) was established in 1958 under the name of Nordic Forest Economics Seminar. The objectives (bylaws, Gilleleje 2002) of SSFE are:
  • To promote co-operation between forest economics in the Nordic countries
  • To promote planning and accomplishment of common Nordic research in forest economics and closely related areas
  • To promote co-operation of common Nordic actions for higher education in forest economics and closely related areas.

In order to fulfil these objectives SSFE organises biennial conferences and working group symposiums. The previous conference was held in Gilleleje, Denmark in May 2002.
Today there are more than 90 active members at universities and research stations in Denmark, Sweden and Finland. The currently active working groups are (there has been a slight change in the names of the groups, ref. Minutes of Meeting in Gilelleje in 2002):

  • Business Economics of Forestry & Forest Management Planning
  • Forest Policy
  • Forest Industry and Forest Products Market
  • Tropical Forestry
