Papers and posters

All contributions should be in English.

Abstracts of oral presentations and posters should be submitted to the Conference Secretariat by January 31, 2003. Instructions

The abstracts are subject to review by the Conference Scientific Board, and acceptance will be announced by February 28, 2003.

Extended abstracts of accepted presentations will be available at the beginning of the conference. They should be submitted to the Conference Secretariat by April 30, 2003. Instructions

If an extended abstract is not submitted, the brief abstract will be displayed. Abstracts that are not accompanied by a successful completion of the registration procedure by at least one of the authors will be excluded.

Selected full papers are to be published after the conference in a special issue of Silva Fennica. Manuscripts should be submitted to the Conference Secretariat by June 30, 2003. Instructions for authors of the journal will apply. Authors will be responsible for the preparation of their manuscripts at all stages of the process. Members of the Conference Scientific Board will assist the Editor in the review process, but the referees will be independent of the Conference organization.

Instructions for paper and poster abstracts

The abstract should include:

  • Title (type in sentence case; capitalize first word only; type all other words except proper names in lowercase letters)
  • Authors (With last name first, followed by initials)
  • Affiliations of authors
  • Name, postal address, phone, fax, and email address of the corresponding author
  • Abstract text (In English; maximum 200 words; no graphics or tabular material; no footnotes; no references; SI units should be used)
  • Method of presentation (oral presentation or poster)
  • Presenter's name

Texts in mail bodies or in WinWord compatible Rich Text (.rtf) -format attachment files are preferred. Print-ready hardcopies are also acceptable provided that they arrive at the Secretariat by January 31, 2003. In that case, the manuscript should be typewritten on one side of the paper with wide margins (4 cm top and bottom, 3 cm side) and single spacing throughout. Please use 12 point Times New Roman font.

Instructions for extended abstracts

Extended abstracts of accepted presentations will be made available at the beginning of the Conference. Manuscripts should be submitted to the Conference Secretariat by April 30, 2003.

Maximum length of a manuscript is 5 pages when printed on A4 sheets.

The organizers will not edit the submitted contributions in any way. Consequently, the extended abstracts should be submitted as hardcopies in print-ready format. Please include a print-ready WinWord 2000 compatible word-processor file on a diskette or a CD (no zip discs). It is also possible to submit the contribution as a print-ready file without sending hardcopies, provided that a complete paper can be produced by just printing the contents. The organizers will not provide editing services and will not assume responsibility for the contents of the printed manuscript.

Manuscripts should be organized in the following order:

  • Title (type in sentence case; capitalize first word only; type all other words except proper names in lowercase letters)
  • Authors (With the last name first followed by initials)
  • Affiliations of authors
  • Name, postal address, phone, fax, and email address of the corresponding author
  • Text with figures, tables, and all other elements in their final forms and places
  • Acknowledgements (if any)
  • References

The manuscript must be in English, and SI Units should be used. Manuscripts should be typewritten on one side of the paper with wide margins (4 cm top and bottom, 3 cm side) and single spacing throughout. Please use 12 point Times New Roman font. Titles and subtitles should be in Sentence case and not numbered. Every page should be numbered. Tables, figures, figure captions, references, and all other elements should be at their final places and in their final, print-ready form. No footnotes.

Instructions for oral presentations

Oral presentations are scheduled for 15 minutes plus 5 minutes for discussion. PowerPoint presentations are preferred. The presentation file must be PC, Windows NT, and PowerPoint 2000 compatible, and delivered on a CD or a diskette (no zip discs). It is advisable to send the presentation in advance to the Conference Secretariat as an email attachment or a CD, and to bring a backup on CD or diskette. You will not be allowed to use your own lap-top computers.

Instructions for poster presentations

The recommended poster size is poster-oriented A0 (height 1168 mm, width 841 mm). The absolute maximum height of a poster is 2300 mm and the maximum width 900 mm. Materials will be attached on metal or cardboard with adhesive tape. The authors will be responsible for the transportation, assembly, and removal of their posters themselves. Schedules for poster setup and sessions will be announced later.
