Forest Resources
Recent Inventories
According to the latest surveys, the growing stock of Finnish forests is 2 284 million cubic metres and the annual increment of growing stock 103.7 million cubic metres. Half of the stock consists of Scots pine, less than one third of Norway spruce, 12% of common white birch, 4% of silver birch, and the remainder of other deciduous and coniferous tree species.
This information is based on the field measurements over the first two years (2009–2010) of the 11th National Forest Inventory. Further results of the NFI11 for Northern and Southern Finland and NFI10 (2004–2008) forest statistics of the regional Forestry Centres are available in Metinfo forest information services (only in Finnish).
More information about the latest results can be found in the press releases.

Development of forest resources
During already 80 years, NFIs have produced unique time series of the development of forest resources. Since 1920's, NFIs have produced information on, e.g., area of forests, area of forest age classes and forest types, volume and increment of growing stock. This page and the links in the left menu show some examples of time series produced from the NFIs. More detailed results can be found in the NFI forest resource reports and in the Finnish Statistical Yearbook of Forestry.
