The field facility of Parkano Research Forest represents south boreal forests with a special focus on the forestry use and other uses of peatlands. On upland sites, the forests are well suited for studies on various types of management regimes.

Environment

In the network of Metla's research forests, Parkano (2100 ha) represents the south boreal forests with a special focus on the forestry use of peatlands. Parkano is located in southwestern Finland, northwest of the cities of Tampere (70 km) and Helsinki (230 km). The area includes one and is in the vicinity of several other nature reserves.
