Maintaining biodiversity
There are two approaches to conserve or generally to maintain
biodiversity in forests: the protection area network created in
the country, and the orientation of the forest management outside
the actually protected areas in such a way that it secures
the maintenance of biodiversity on a large–scale. The current
approach suggests that biodiversity targets can best be reached
by the integration of segregated protection areas with closeto-
nature forest management. This success can be monitored
by the numbers of threatened species, which can be seen as indicators
of change in the forest ecosystems. |
