Change of stem diameter during the latest recorded week

The page shows the increment curves during the most recent week. Typically, the radius of conifers follows a regular circadian rhythm in boreal conditions. During the day, transpiration is high and the stems shrink a little. The pattern is reversed at night, when transpiration is low, but water uptake remains effective.
Change of diameter at chest height, mm
(0 = diameter at the beginning of May)
During rainy periods the relative humidity of air is high also in day-time, and the circadian rhythm may disappear. In addition, larger increases of stem diameter are frequently observed, when a rainy period starts after a dry period. |
