Kukkola Farm
The historical Kukkola farm is located in Joensuu, at Karhunmäki (Vanha Valtatie 70) along the Vanha Lappeenrannantie. Originally under the ownership of the Kukkonen family since the 1700s, the farm is now owned by the North Karelia Agriculture Foundation. The farm offers a wealth of attractions: the arboretum , Katri´s forest trail, the sample garden, the home museum in the main building, the stone cowhouse, the shelter, and the Antti Kukkonen memorial `Hiljainen huone´ (the Quiet Room). At the shelter close to the yard, horse rides and joint events are organized.
Metla has used Kukkola farm for research, testing, training and educational purposes. The arboretum was jointly established by Metla and the North Karelia Agriculture Foundation in the years 1992-1997. The arboretum has over 50 species of tree, various mutations of these species, and fascinating tree shapes. There are over 400 trees from 14 families, covering approximately 1.5 hectares.
