Farmers Preferences for Extension Technologies under Social Forestry and Farm Forestry in Karnataka

Gowda, K. Narayana, Rajanna, N.

A study utilizing 120 farmers in Bangalore's rural district of Karnataka State revealed that the majority of big farmers and small farmers had a medium knowledge and low knowledge, respectively, about social forestry and farm forestry programs. Films, demonstrations, and discussion meetings were the preferred extension methods by small farmers; individual contacts and video shows by big farmers. A greater percentage of big and small farmers said relatives, friends, and local leaders were the most credible sources of information in respect of social and farm forestry activities. Sentimental attachment to field crops and subsistence farming were the identified constraints in forestry expansion programs in private lands.

Key words: farm forestry, social forestry, extension.
