Poster 264: Quantitative Evaluation of Wood Cell Distribution and Shape by the Fourier Transform Image Analysis

Fujita, Minoru

A new method was developed, based on Fourier transformation of pictures, to analyse wood structures such as tracheid arrangement, cell shapes, and vessel distribution. Actual procedures were performed both by the optical diffraction method, using He-Ne laser, and also the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). Using FFT, one thousand cells are analyzed at a time and, therefore, variations can be evaluated quantitatively.

Key words: Fast Fourier Transformation, wood variation.
