Phoracantha semipunctata is a major pest problem in Eucalyptus plantations in Portugal. Thus, considering a pest management program approach from an integrated perspective, it is very important to quantify the damages caused by this insect.
For this purpose, information regarding the evolution of the infestation levels in two consecutive years was collected. The study took place in a 4.5 ha, 4 year old Eucalyptus globulus stand in the region of Abrantes. All the trees were classified as attacked/not attacked and dead/alive in the first year and the situation re-analyzed in the following year and re-evaluated three years later. A mathematical model was used to determine the resulting decrease in production and consequent economical losses.
Key words: Phoracantha semipunctata, Eucalyptus globulus, economical losses.
