Travel Information

Tampere is 175 km (108 miles) north of Helsinki with frequent connections to and from Helsinki by air, rail and road.

By Air

Helsinki is within easy reach from the European cities and the other continents. There are several daily flights from Helsinki to Tampere. The most practical way, however, is to take the special Congress Shuttle Bus from the Helsinki Airport to Tampere Hall, as described below.

Finnair, the official carrier of the Congress, raffles one return flight ticket among those who fly Finnair, valid in Europe. The winner will be notified during the Congress week and his/her name will be announced at Finnair desk in Tampere Hall.

By Sea

You may wish to come to Finland by ship using the direct service to Helsinki from Travemünde in Germany, Gdansk in Poland, Stockholm in Sweden and Tallinn in Estonia. These boats and ferries are very popular in summertime, so book your trip well in advance.

By Bus or Train

There are frequent connections by bus and train between Helsinki and Tampere. The comfortable journey takes two hours and you will relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

A special non-stop Congress Shuttle Bus leaves every hour from Helsinki Airport to Tampere Hall on Saturday, 5 August from 08:00 a.m. to 01:00 a.m. the following day and on Sunday, 6 August from 10:00 a.m. to 01:00 a.m. the following day. The special bus fare for Congress participants is FIM 50 or USD 10.

By Car

Tampere is well connected by roads to every part of Finland. There are good parking facilities close to the Congress Venue (see the map below). If you wish to rent a car you can take advantage of the special rates for the IUFRO delegates.
