Opening Ceremonies

The Opening Ceremonies will take place in the Main Hall of Tampere Hall (Room T1) with a seating capacity of 2,000 spectators. An early arrival quarantees seating in the Main Hall. The doors of the Main Hall will be closed at 9:20 on Monday morning.

The Ceremonies will be broadcast to the Exhibition Hall at Tampere Hall (T-Building.

The Opening Ceremonies include addresses by the following distinguished persons:

The Lord Mayor of Tampere, Mr. Jarmo Rantanen
The Chaiman of the Congress Organizing Committee, Dr. Risto Seppälä
The President of IUFRO, Dr. M. N. Salleh
The Prime Minister of Finland, Mr. Paavo Lipponen
The Assistant Director General of FAO, Dr. David Harcharik

The Keynote Address "Forest as a Source of Economic and Social Welfare" will be presented by Dr. Risto Ihamuotila.

The IUFRO Scientific Awards will be presented by Dr. J. H. Cayford, Vice-President of IUFRO, and Dr. H. Schmutzenhofer, IUFRO Secretary.

A set of forest research stamps will be issued for the Congress. These stamps will be introduced at the Opening Ceremonies.

There will also be a rich cultural programme included in the Opening Ceremonies.
