GIS and GPS
- GIS Lab Main Page
- Remote sensing (e.g. the use of digital satellite imagery or
aerial data to understand the surface of the earth) has a particular
utility in regions that are large, poorly understood, and changing
rapidly.
- These interests and capabilities have led our remote sensing
and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) research to the major
forested regions of the world - the tropics of South America and
the boreal forests of the former Soviet Union. One of our
long-term goals is the production of a Global Forest Inventory - a
measure of current global forest extent and composition and
global terrestrial carbon sequestration - that will help us monitor
future changes in this invaluable resource.
Remote Sensing
- CCRS Products and Research on Disaster Monitoring
- CCRS scientific teams assess and demonstrate the potential of remote sensing data to satisfy the information requirements of agencies that have an operational mandate for the management of various types of disasters
(e.g. Forest Fires).
