Flashpoint! -An educational website about forest fires
- This web site was made by Shawn Murray and Annette Svederus, for the
University of Alberta, Forestry 340 class (Forest Fire Management) and
instructor Dr. Schwarz. It is designed for the general public, by enabling
them to gain a better understanding of fire and effects from fire. The site
includes additional links to continental and international agencies.
- Fire is a natural destroyer and creator of several ecosystems. It is a feared
phenomenon by most, usually leaving the advantages of fire unnoticed.
This site is intended to enlighten everyone who visits, and inform them
more about fire in Canada and around the world. The more
knowledgeable we are about fires, both prescribed and wild, the better we
can understand them. This knowledge can then be used advantageous by
fires to naturally occur in an area. This web site provides valuable
information to a interested reader and the advanced fire enthusiasts.
- This page was put on line on April 1, 1997, and created at the University
of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. The information contained in this web
page is combined information from class, and extensive surfing on the
web. The information contained is a great resource to have at your
disposal for any research regarding fire.

- Indonesian Fire Maps
- The maps presented here depict areas of numerous fires and areas of active fires in Indonesia.
These have been produced at the request of the USDA Forest Service (USFS). Information was derived
from a variety of sources to create the boundaries seen on the maps. The maps allow definition of areas
that may be of concern given their proximity to population centers or valuable national assets.
Maps depicting fires in areas near Pahandut and Banjarmasin in Kalimantan, Borneo; and Rengat
and Pakanbaru in Sumatra were produced on 29 September. Updated maps of Pahandut and Banjarmasin
were sent to the USFS on 1 October. Additional maps will be produced as more data becomes available.
