Forest Research Capacity Strengthening in Mozambique 2012-2014 (FORECAS)

Sitemap | Search

FORECAS Project is a development cooperation project implemented jointly by Finnish Forest Research Instute (Metla) and Mozambican research organizations Agrarian Research Institute of Mozambique (IIAM) and the Faculty of Agronomy and Forest Engineering in Eduardo Mondlane University (FAEF-UEM).

There is a common understanding that more knowledge is needed about Mozambican native forest and wildlife species, their growth and their utilization. The capacity building of research work on growth and yield of natural forests and technological properties of Mozambican tree species as well as the information and dissemination of technologies included in this project gives an important contribution to the forest sector for defining sound policies for sustainable management and utilization of forest resources.

Capacity building in research data management is a key tool to utilize previous studies and to reduce fieldwork costs of forestry research as data of previous studies can be re-utilized. Applicable research have been generated by both IIAM and UEM, and it still only remain in scientific reports or project reports due the lack of good strategies for dissemination. Capacity building in dissemination approaches is needed for delivering the existing results in an appropriate way to the end users.

The project was established as a part of Forest Sector Support Program of Mozambique (SUNAFOP/APRONAF) and is financed by Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland (MFA) through the Institutional Cooperation Instrument (ICI).
