Publication of RESTORE results at the European Forest Data Centre of the European Commission managed by JRC will serve to define future guidelines for SFM.

By creating scientific basis for maintaining biodiversity, resilience, resistance and elasticity in low-disturbed or extensively managed Russian forests and developing tools for forest management and restoration, RESTORE helps to prevent depletion of forest resources in Russia and threat for the last intact forest landscapes. The results of restoration experiments in Finland and other EU countries will be transferred to Russian end-users in forest sector. Results of the project will be applied directly in the conservation and restoration plans of the Vepssky Forest Natural Park, Kenozersky National Park and Central Biosphere rorest reserve.

RESTORE fits well into the current trend in which Russia and EU are increasing collaboration, offers an excellent chance to combine basic research, traditionally the strong point in Russia to applied research, which has priority in EU.

The project "The role of coarse woody debris in the carbon (C) cycling in European boreal forests" (Russian Foundation for Basic Research, 2009-2011, 09-04-00209-а, 09-04-10100-к, 10-04-10135-к) benefits from the RESTORE.

The project results will be used in developing biological criteria for conservation in the METSO biodiversity conservation programme for years 2006-2016.
