Research Programme: Wellbeing from forests

Objectives

The project aims at developing guidelines for the cost-effective production of recreation and landscape values in forestry areas. Public's landscape preferences and recreational needs are important starting point of the work. The project compiles and produces knowledge on the impacts of forest management practices on the scenic and recreational qualities of forests. Recommendations for landscape management in different types of zoned and forestry areas will be given. Also, guidelines for recognizing scenically important areas in forestry lands will be developed. The current methods to assess the environmental quality of forest cuttings in private and state forests will be evaluated.

Timetable

The project started in October 2008 and will be finished by the end of the year 2009. Preliminary report will be published in February 2009, and the final report in December 2009.
