Metla Project 7254
Social and Local Economical Impacts of Forest Conservation in the Remote Rural Areas
Duration: 2007-2008
Keywords: forest conservation, input-output analysis, local development, social accounting matrices
Research Programme: Safeguarding forest biodiversity - policy instruments and socio-economic impacts
Objectives
The research aims are to construct a local economy model to estimate multidimensional impacts of forest conservation on the three Finnish municipalities. Methodically, an application of model is based on the input-output analysis and the framework of SAM (social accounting matrices). A new task in building of SAM is a construction of industry to the forest conservation using and combining results of interviews and queries both several regional and local official statistics in Finland. Dynamic effects of the forest conservation and other historical changes in different branches of the local economy are possible to assess using historical time series data of Finnish districts.
