Metla Project 7250
Harvesting potential and costs of peatland forests
Duration: 2007-2008
Keywords: harvesting potential
Research Programme: Production forestry in drained peatlands
Objectives
Harvesting potential of peatland forests is estimated by timber assortments. The harvesting potential from first thinnings is classified according to harvesting conditions and costs. Energy wood is also included in the analysis. Harvesting costs are estimated based on both current silvicultural practises and the most cost-efficient practises. The analysis is mainly based on the National Forest Inventory (NFI10) and specified field measurements.
The project is funded and carried out in co-operation with Finnish Forest Research Institute and Metsäteho.
