Duration: 2007-2008   Keywords: bucking, silvicultural practices, timber production, value, wood quality
Research Programme: Potentials for the utilisation of roundwood and wood raw materials in relation to the wood product markets

Objectives

The project aims to promote growing and procurement of high-value timber in Central Finland by advising in silvicultural management practises, and steering growing and procurement of high-value timber to meet the regional needs. Within the project, silvicultural management practices to grow high quality timber are to be defined for the typical stands in the region by calculations and expert panels. Calculations include growth and yield simulations by MOTTI software, bucking simulations and net present value calculations to find economical return within the rotation time. These silvicultural management practices aiming quality timber are to be compared to ordinary silvicultural management practices.
