Objectives

The aim of the project, Action plan for Pirkanmaa wood industry 2007-2013, is to form a development programme for the wood industry in the Tampere region for the years 2007-2013. This project also coordinates the kick-off of the key projects in the action plan. Action plan includes the vision of wood industry future in the Tampere region. An important goal of this project is also to forward networking between the wood processing companies. Target groups are sawmills, plan mills, wood preservation companies, wood furniture industry and joinery shops.

The bases of the project are company interviews in which the mapping of entrepreneur’s opinions will be made. The results of these interviews will be summarized and sub-regional (each sub-region considers 3-7 municipalities) and regional (entire Tampere region) action plans will be made. To enhance the networking between companies, regional advisory board will be presented. Advisory boards collect different wood processing companies together to discuss about current situation in wood industry. Boards focus mainly on local issues.

The primary financer of the project, Action plan for Pirkanmaa wood industry 2007-2013, is Employment and Economic Development Centre for Pirkanmaa and its ELMA-fund. This project is led by Finnish Forest Research Institute, Parkano.
