Metla Project 7196
Modification of the MELA Model to use Assimilated Initial Data to Produce Forest Growth Estimates in Boreal Forests
Duration: 2005-2008
Research Programme: Forest Management Planning
Objectives
The project “Modification of the MELA Model to use Assimilated Initial Data to Produce Forest Growth Estimates in Boreal Forests” (LocalMELA) is a part of a Finnish-Canadian consortium “Northern Boreal Forest Information Products Based on Earth Observation Data” (3/2005-3/2008) within the research programme AVALI. LocalMELA is a co-operation project between Metla and the University of Joensuu. The project is funded by Tekes. The project develops and tests together with the University of Joensuu as well as with other members of the AVALI consortium a prototype for a calculation system that is easily tailored for local conditions (forest inventory data and models). The objective of the project is a new interface standard between the models and calculation chains to facilitate the adoption of the calculation system into different conditions with the help of local expertise.
