R&D network of thinning wood

Objectives
1. Gain perceptions about potential research and product development projects related to utilisation of small-size timber that the wood product industries consider worthwile for actual perfomation and what are their desires, readiness, motives and resources to participate this kind of projects. 2. Explore the availability of different financing sources and the readiness of different financing organisations to support the projects under design or to be designed. 3. Describe the functions of different research institutes, universities and expertise centres in the R&D related to utilisation of small-size timber, and find the best potential organisations in different fields of expertise for the projects under design. 4. Design the budget, schedule and operation plan for the network of research and product development of small-size timber.
Results of the project are particularly useful for small and medium-scale wood processing industries that are searching for new alternatives for raw materials and products and partners for utilisation of small-size timber. In the final report, potential R&D projects are proposed and the associated or interested enterprises in the Finnish forest cluster are shown.
