Duration: 2012
Research project group: Family forestry and forest policy

Objectives

In this study the factors affecting forest owners’ timber supply in general, and specifically energy wood supply as well as stand improvement are investigated. These factors include market drivers, forest owner and holding characteristics, ownership objectives, public cost-sharing and extension, and the use of family labor in forestry. Attitudes and beliefs towards stand improvement are analyzed in more detail. The study also develops estimation methods for profitability of invested capital in private forestry based on economic theory. In addition, landowners’ attitudes towards reallocation of pieces of land and especially towards the so-called land bank system are investigated. The effectiveness of information guidance on forestry behavior is also analyzed by examining the effects of information campaigns and holding-level forest management planning.
