Metla Project 3508
Modelling the structure and functioning of trees
Duration: 2008-2011
Keywords: Climate change, European pine sawfly, clonal dwarf shrubs, functional-structural model, growth model, nitrogen, tree growth
Research project group: Distinct projects 1 - Structure and function of forest ecosystems
Objectives
This project developes LIGNUM model so that it suits as a tool to study reactions of trees and tree- herbivore interactions in the cases that require dealing with both physiological reactions and detailed crown structure. LIGNUM will be developed so that it can serve as a common application platform for studies that concern tree reaction and interactions of trees with herbivory and possibly other agents causing damage/disturbance. The model will be applied to a number cases:
1. Study of competition between trees in sapling and pole stage stands considering also their genotypes that reflect in different parameter values or parameter functions.
2. Simulating the dynamics of European pine sawfly (Neodiprion sertifer) and pine tree system.
