Metla Project 3490
The effects of climate change on the distribution ranges and the structure of forest vegetation in Finland
Duration: 2008-2011
Keywords: Climate change, distribution, vegetation
Research Programme: Functioning of forest ecosystems and use of forest resources in changing climate
Objectives
Objectives of this study are
1. to identify forest understorey species that are sensitive to changes in the climate
2. to model responses of plant species on environmental variables, which describe climate such as effective temperature sum and precipitation
3. to model the effects of soil properties and stand structure on the vegetation changes caused by climate change
4. to predict changes in the species abundances and distribution resulting from climate change
5. to find indicator species that can be used for monitoring of changes in the forest vegetation
6. to analyse the state of the present forest vegetation (years 2006-2007) and possible changes caused by exceptional draught summer (2006) as a phenomenon of changing climate referring the same plots back to 10 and 20 years ago.
Keywords
Climate change, vegetation distribution
