Metla Project 3487
Operational regimes for wood production in peatland forest
Duration: 2008-2011
Keywords: drained peatlands, forest drainage, silvicultural guidelines, silviculture, thinning
Research Programme: Production forestry in drained peatlands
Objectives
The project aims at testing the applicability of the recently launched silvicultural guidelines in operational decision-making at the level of forest estates and drainage areas. Further, the impacts of thinnings and ditch network maintenance on the growth of trees and stands in peatland forests will be studied. The project also addresses the profitability of forest management, in terms of both return on investments in specific silvicultural operations as well as net present values of alternative management regimes in the long-term.
