Metla Project 3469

Changes of forest vegetation and prediction of site productivity

[  Suomeksi  |  Objectives  |  Project leader  |  Researchers  |  Publications  |  Metla Research  ]

Duration: 2007-2012   Keywords: Environmental changes, forest productivity, forest vegetation, niche, peatland vegetation, site
Research project group: Distinct projects 1 - Structure and function of forest ecosystems

Objectives

The aim is to create and improve means to use vegetation as an indicator of site productivity, the state and changes of forest and peatland ecosystems as well as environmental factors. The project plans to produce information on temporal changes of plant communities and yield response models and indicator values of plant communities and species along ecological gradients. A practical aim is to produce new tools for site type classification and environmental biology. Central tasks are a new field guide for identifying site types on mineral soils and improvement of site type classification on peatlands drained for forestry.
