Duration: 2007-2011   Keywords: Heterobasidion annosum, biological control, forest damage, mycorrhiza, virus infection
Research project group:

Objectives

The project is composed of two subprojects: “New possibilities in controlling Heterobasidion root rot: viruses” and “New possibilities in controlling Heterobasidion root rot: mycorrhizal fungi". The potential of viruses and mycorrhizal funngi in contolling Heretobasidion root rot are analysed during the project. In additon, the project includes mykorrhiza work based on an ending project.

The project aims to improve the current biological control method against Heterobasidion annosum. The project also studies the natural biological factors which could prevent the spread of the root rot to peatlands.
