Objectives

This Metla project continues the coordination and carrying out research for the IUFRO's Special Project on World Forests, Society and Environment (IUFRO-WFSE) 2007-2010. The Special Project is a collaborative effort by ten research institutes, with the objective of critically analyzing existing scientific knowledge on the interface between forests, society and the environment. The mission is to amend the existing gap between policy makers and scientists in the formulation and application of policies in forestry related matters, in support of sustainable development and well being of people. In 2007-2010 a specific objective is to facilitate the regional actors' to enter into the dialogues of global policy processes. This is done through regional networking and capacity development. The activities of the Special Project may be followed at www.iufro.org/wfse/.

The coordination project plans, administers, implements research and research cooperation, and performs networking and dissemination activities of WFSE. These activities are executed under the guidance and supervision of the Steering Committee, which also supports some of the implementation. The project maintains the fluent flow of information between actors within the Special Project and with the global research and policy community. In addition, WFSE carries out efforts to secure funding for the activities, jointly with its partners.
