Metla Project 3447
Mechanization of silvicultural works
Duration: 2007-2011
Keywords: Silviculture, cleaning, cleaning machines, mechanization, planting, planting machines
Research Programme: Cost-efficiency and quality in silvicultural operations
Objectives
Aim is to study the possibilities to mechanize planting and cleaning works and to study the productivity, unit costs and work quality of planting machines. We will participate to the development of new machine types and to transfer the technology into private forestry.
Results
Pre-results of prototype planting machine (M-Planter) indicates ca. 30 % higher work productivity compared with mostly used machine Bracke. Work quality is in the same level with manual planting. Unit costs may even be lower or in the same level with manual planting. Some new steps in the development of planting machines are going on.
