Duration: 2007-2011   Keywords: Regeneration , cleaning, pre-commercial thinning, quality control
Research Programme: Cost-efficiency and quality in silvicultural operations

Objectives

The aim of the project is to develop practical tools for quality management in forest regeneration and management of young stands. Concerning forest regeneration, the goal is to help forestry organizations apply quality control in their practical work and support forest owners’ associations by methodological development, field survey training and analysing the field survey results. The effect of systematic quality survey on practical forest regeneration is analysed. The quality of forest regeneration results is compared with the costs of regeneration operations.

For pre-commercial thinning a practical tool for quality management will be created. This quality management tool will based on observations done in the operational work. This tool will be piloted in practice in co-operation with 1-2 forest owners’ association.
