Research Programme: Research and Development Programme on Forest Resource Information Systems and Forest Planning

Objectives

Research and Development Programme on Forest Resource Information Systems and Forest Planning (MSU) differs from other research programmes in Metla. MSU is a network of actors and researchers, not an independent administrative unit consisting of projects.
  • The purpose of MSU is to facilitate interaction between actors, data providers, developers of ICT-applications and researchers working with forest resource information systems and forest planning.
  • The co-ordination project offers services for the interaction. The activities of MSU are defined by the advisory group consisting of experts from research, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, universities, forest industry and practical forestry. The advisory group regards as important the information collection and distribution concerning the on-going research and development projects, future challenges and available resources/expertise. Furthermore, the advisory group emphasizes the importance of tailored communication such as thematic seminars as well as meetings or journal articles addressing problems from the point of view of specific interest groups. According to the advisory group the most important tool is synthesis integrating results from different projects.
