The project aims at improved methods and procedures for precommercial thinning so that current problems and future threats can be successfully dealt with. The objective is to construct reliable operational guidelines for major management situations. The key areas of research and development are

1. Structure and dynamics of young stands

2. Modeling and simulation tools

3. Timing of treatments and its influence on labor and costs

4. Operational improvements

5. Optimization of management
