Research project group: Distinct projects - Social impact of forests
Objectives
This project develops and updates the existing Russian Forestry Information Service (see www.idanmetsatieto.info). Information service will be updated with news from Russian forestry, which are to large extent based on Russian sources. New information will be brought in as a result of continuous follow up of the development in Russian forest sector and forest research. Service will be expanded to cover also new EU member and accession countries, as well as other countries with economies in transition having substantial forest resources. Expansion of the service will be started from the Baltic Sea countries. Service is also an important means for disseminating results of other Russian and CEE country related forest research and development projects.
Results
Russian Forestry Internet Service was updated weekly during the years 2005 and 2006, central themes being changes in Russian forest policy, forestry and development of forest industry. 348 news and 47 pages of other topical materials were produced, and 18 publications added to the service. Electronic catalogue of Northwest Russian forest enterprises was published. Contact information and short description of 220 companies were available at the end of the year 2006. During the two years there were 95,000 visitor sessions, on average 150 visitors during weekdays. Expanding of the information service will be realized as a part of the MetInfo services on Metla´s web pages. Structure and aimed contents of the expansion have been defined and new materials about forest sectors of Baltic Sea countries collected during 2006.
