The Effects of Forest Harvesting and Soil Scarification on Catchment Water and Nutrient Fluxes (VALU)
The aim of this study is to investigate water and nutrient fluxes on
five catchments and the effects of final cuttings and soil preparation
on forest soil, ground water and discharge. It is important to increase
our understanding on the factors affecting water and nutrient fluxes
from forest areas after harvesting and it is also significant that the
processes are monitored before and after the forestry operations. The old Nurmes-study catchments established in 1980 are also included in this study. Forestry operations done in those old catchments were ditching, clear-cutting and soil preparation.
