Objectives
The topic of this study is the SMEs in the forest and wood products sector and the networks they form. The aims of this pilot study can be defined as follows: 1) to study the economical processes and profitability in and between the firms in the networks, 2) to define the financial and non-financial measures important within and outside the network in assessing the growth and profitability of the firms in question and 3) to evaluate how well the public-finance instruments in use are in concert with network-based entrepreneurship. This project will be accomplished in co-operation with research project (3315) that seeks to determine whether preconditions can be found in Finland for the creation of a Marshallian-type industrial district based on forest and woodworking SMEs.
