[  Suomeksi  |  Objectives  |  Project leader  |  Researchers  |  Publications  |  Metla Research  ]

Duration: 2002-2004   Keywords: quality of timber, timber, wood harvesting , wood technology
Research Program: Potentials for the utilisation of roundwood and wood raw materials in relation to the wood product markets

Objectives

The aim of the study is to identify, analyse and model factors causing defects in timber in mechanised cutting performed by single-grip harvester. Main motive of the study is that the forest industries experience large yield losses because considerable damages of timber can take place in mechanised cutting. A theoretical model of defect mechanisms related to cutting is constructed and tested.
