Metla Project 3349
Factors affecting into the controlled seed and seedlings production
Duration: 2002-2006
Keywords: Flowering characteristics , root formation and development, seed production, vegetative production
Research project group: Distinct projects 1 - Structure and function of forest ecosystems
Objectives
The main objective of spruce is to develop an effective controlled production method for breeding purposes. This method will include both the controlled seed production and vegetative cutting multiplication where the main enphasis is to utilize mycorrhizal fungi to stimulate the root development.
In pine the main objectives are to establish a graft material for future research and do basic research dealing pollination, fertilization and seed production in controlled environments. The vegetative propagation via micro shoots and the stimulation of rooting with the aid of mycorrhizal fungi is also under study.
With birch the objective is to clear out if the seed production environment (plastic house) as any effect to the adaptation of seedlings.
