Challenges for Plantation Forest in the Globalizing World - a feasibility study

Objectives
The feasibility study of one year will specify the objectives and methods for the intended research.
Results
Available data and forecasts of extent and implications of plantation forests were identified, as well as the key critical issues in their assessment, management and social and environmental impacts. The subject was widely considered essential, also for the future of the Finnish forest sector. In the near future plantations are studied within IUFRO-WFSE collaboration. Further decisions on research in Metla are pending.
