Metla Project 3343
Forest inventory and estimation methods for management planning
Duration: 2002-2007
Keywords: digital aerial photos, forest inventory, forest planning, models, taper curve models
Results
Segmentation of a digital aerial images and collection of field data by segments was tested. Methodology based on utilisation of field computer and GPS equipment was developed to support the collection of field data.
A pilot study on continuous updating of forest resource data for forest planning (in private forest) was started. Preliminary results indicate that the data bases of Forest Centers and Forest Owners Associations contain relevant data that can be utilised in effective updating. Up to 79 % of the operations (cuttings, nursing of seedling stands, etc.) can be found in the data bases.
