Metla Project 3293

Survey of atmospheric heavy metal deposition by bioindicators in 2000

[  Suomeksi  |  Objectives  |  Results  |  Project leader  |  Researchers  |  Publications  |  Metla Research  ]

Duration: 2000-2002   Keywords: bioindicators, deposition, heavy metals, mosses, reference materials

Objectives

The heavy metal load on the environment in Finland has been surveyed at the national level using forest mosses in 1985, 1990, 1995 and 2000. The main moss species collected is Hylocomium splendens and when it is absent, Pleurozium schreberi. The emission sources of heavy metals, the areas affected by the emission and the temporal variation in deposition are presented by using maps based on the heavy metal concentrations of moss samples.

Results

Results are published in Finnish in Metinfo Service.
